Abstract

Drug resistance to antiretroviral regimen is a challenging problem in HIV-infected patients. We describe a case of a 45-year-old Caucasian male that, after failure of several successive antiretroviral regimens, has been successfully treated with a combination of darunavir, a protease inhibitor, and etravirine, a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. This case report underlines the difficulties of everyday management of HIV-infected patients and the importance of an early identification of resistances and the individualization of the therapy
